Press Release: Structure Fire, Borough of Deal Department of Public Works

NARRATIVE:
On September 10, 2023 at approximately 3:00am Ptl Zach Bell was on routine patrol in the Borough of Deal. While traveling on Norwood Ave he noticed an odor of something burning and alerted other patrols. Officers began canvassing the area and a short time later, Ptl Bell discovered a working structure fire at Deal Department of Public Works on Runyan Ave. The Deal Fire Department was immediately dispatched and responded along with several mutual aid agencies.
The fire was contained to two overhead bays along with some extension into the second floor. One Firefighter was transported to the hospital for chest pain and difficulty breathing and has since been released. The cause and origin is under investigation by this agency, the Deal Fire Marshal, and the Monmouth County Fire Marshals Office.
