GPFDPS is notifying residents of four separate road closures/congested areas over the next few days.
Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety would like to inform residents of the FOUR following traffic concerns and congestion areas. Motorists may want to seek alternative routes.
- 09/13/23 Tonight: Grosse Pointe Boulevard & McKinley Place. The Grosse Pointe Farms Emergency Support Unit will conduct traffic control training this evening. An important skill set that is used frequently during special events for the safety of pedestrians and motorists. This evening. From 6:45 p.m. till 7:45 p.m., traffic on Grosse Pointe Blvd may be rerouted down McKinley Place to Lake Shore Road.
- 09/14/23 Thursday: G.P. Boulevard & Lake Shore Road near McKinley Place. Grosse Pointe South High School will conduct an evacuation drill starting at 9:30 a.m. This is their annual emergency preparedness training event. Grosse Pointe Boulevard and Lake Shore Road near McKinley Place will be closed for 10-15 minutes at 9:30 a.m. and again approximately 30 minutes later. Traffic on G.P. Blvd & Lake Shore Road can seek alternative routes or wait for the roadways to reopen. Pedestrians participating in this event may be stopped at times to ease traffic congestion on both streets.
- 09/14/23 Thursday: Kercheval Avenue between Lewiston Road & Moross Road. The Kercheval Avenue resurfacing project will resume work starting Thursday morning. Only eastbound (north) traffic will be permitted on Kercheval Ave during this milling process, which may take several days. Westbound traffic (south) should utilize Ridge Road, G.P. Boulevard, or Lake Shore Road. The entire resurfacing project will take several weeks, and traffic control/detours will be adjusted during this process to allow the work to be completed.
- 09/16/23 Saturday: The 44th Annual Grosse Pointe Run will be held Saturday morning. Road closures will start at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 11 a.m. Eastbound (north) Lake Shore Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between Warner Road & Provencal Road. Westbound (south) Lake Shore Road will have one lane closed between Warner Road & Provencal Road. The other westbound lane will be open to traffic. There will be no left turn from Moross Road onto Lake Shore Road during the run. All feeder streets that intersect at Lake Shore will be open; however, traffic will only be allowed to turn right (westbound).
