JPD is reaccredited again!
 
Thanks to the work of many at JPD we were reaccredited by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group – WILEAG.  WILEAG presented the reaccreditation plaque to the police department at the City Council meeting on September 11, 2023.  Wisconsin has over 550 police departments, only 44 are accredited.
 
Many police departments claim to be professional.  We ask, says who?  At JPD we can say that WILEAG affirms that we are a professional organization.  The accreditation process requires industry-leading policy and then, we have to prove that we walk the talk.  Appropriate policy is easy to write and adopt.  The real work starts with following the policy and proving that we follow our policy.  Hence the power of accreditation, proving that we do what we say.
 
Special thanks to Lieutenant Mark Ratzlaff who is our Accreditation Manager and Administrative Assistant Karen Burdick who always provides work and guidance with accreditation.   Unique accolades to retired Sergeant Brian Vaughn, retired Deputy Chief Steve Kopp and retired Deputy Chief Terry Sheridan who rejoined JPD to guide us with the accreditation process. 
 
America’s safest communities are founded upon community trust in their police departments.  Trust starts with confidence that their police department is living up to a proven set of standards.  The accreditation process allows for this confidence and trust.
