DUI Checkpoint and Saturation Patrols this weekend. 
The Santa Maria Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint as well as a DUI Saturaration Patrol this weekend.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serves as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers.
The purpose for the saturation patrols is to arrest drivers who are operating a vehicle impaired and putting others at risk.
Funding for these events is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
