Fall 2023 Hydrant Flushing begins Monday, September 18th 
The City of McHenry's Public Works Department will be completing its Fall 2023 Hydrant Flushing Operation on Monday, September 18th through Friday, October 6th.
Hydrant flushing is necessary to clean and maintain the water distribution system. During the flushing period, water can become discolored. If this occurs, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears. If this does not correct the problem, wait approximately one (1) hour and flush the cold water again. Do not run your hot water until the cold water tap has cleared. This discoloration is not hazardous for human consumption; however, clothing can become stained during laundering.
