El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from September 3rd to September 9th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from September 3rd  to September 9th.

September 3rd


Petty Theft – 5600 block of Ludwig Ave:
Officers responded to a suspicious circumstance call and learned the victim had chased a suspect out of his vehicle around 3:10 AM.  He did not call police at the time, and he was not concerned until his automatic garage door opened again around 9:30 AM.  The garage door remote from the victim vehicle was located in the street where the suspect had entered the passenger seat of the suspect vehicle.
 
Vehicle Theft – 6000 block of Jordan Ave:
An officer reports the theft of a vehicle which was captured on Ring video at 3:10 AM.  The victim left the vehicle unlocked, and a suspect appeared to be ransacking the vehicle when he located the key that was hidden inside.  The suspects arrived in another vehicle, which fled along with the victim vehicle. 

Vehicle Theft – 11740 San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports the theft of a vehicle from the street in front of the address between 9:56 PM on 9/2 and 10:42 AM on 9/3.  The vehicle hit on the Flock camera at Potrero and S56th at 3:14 AM.

Vehicle Theft – 11780 San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports the theft of a vehicle from the rear parking lot between 6:00 PM on 9/2 and 11:15 AM on 9/3.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11740 San Pablo Ave:
While investigating the other vehicle thefts at this location, an officer discovered a vehicle unoccupied and running in the parking lot.  The right front window was broken out and the ignition was destroyed.  The vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle out of the City of Alameda.  Flock showed the vehicle entering the city at 2:49 AM.  A courtesy vehicle theft report was taken to be forwarded to Alameda PD, and the vehicle was recovered.

Petty Theft – 6500 block of Central Ave:
An adult tricycle was stolen from in front of the victim’s residence approximately 1:40 PM, by an unidentified suspect.

Residential Burglary – 5332 Rosalind Ave:
Unidentified suspect(s) entered a house under renovation via an unlocked window and stole power tools sometime between 3:30 PM on 9/1 and 8:00 AM on 9/2.

Evading Police- Liberty/ Gladys:
At 2:12 AM, an officer was on patrol and noticed a vehicle driving the wrong direction on a one way street. The officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle accelerated and began to drive recklessly. Due to safety concerns to the public the officer elected not to pursue the vehicle. The officer observed the vehicle from a distance and noticed it was involved in a solo vehicle collision. Upon arrival witnesses advised the suspect had fled the scene. While processing the vehicle for evidence, officers located several burglary tools commonly used for catalytic converter thefts.  
 
Commercial Burglary- 10398 San Pablo Ave (Subway):
At 5:11 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed the window of the front door to gain entry into the business and stole property.

Residential Burglary- 5200 Block of Ernest Ave:
At 5:15 AM, the victim called the Dispatch Center and stated she heard noises in her kitchen located on the first floor of the residence and believed someone was inside her home. Officers arrived on scene and had the victim exit the front door of the residence. As the victim was exiting her residence, the suspect followed closely behind her. When the suspect saw officers outside the residence he quickly shut the front door and locked it. Officers gave the suspect several commands to exit the residence but he refused. Officers located an unsecured window where the suspect had entered the residence from and made entry. Officers safely escorted the other occupants of the residence who were asleep out of the residence. A Canine Officer arrived on scene and gave several commands to the suspect to surrender. The suspect continued to refuse and the Canine was deployed. The canine made contact with the suspect and officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody.  The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

September 4th

No incidents to report.

September 5th

Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Waldo Ave.
At 7:47 PM the victim reported that their vehicle was stolen during the night.  Alameda PD found the vehicle abandoned in the middle of the street in their city. 

Vandalism – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 8:05 AM the victim reports that sometime last night an unknown suspect shattered the driver’s side window to their vehicle. 
 
September 6th

Petty Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway)
At 2:37 PM the victim’s purse was stolen from her cart, while she was shopping inside Safeway.

Stolen Vehicle – 1200 block Richmond St.
At 3:54 PM the victim tracked their stolen vehicle to this location.  Officers located the vehicle parked unoccupied and released it to the victim.

Driving Under the Influence – Central Ave at Lexington Ave.
At 4:59 PM officers located a subject slumped behind the wheel of his vehicle.  The subject showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics and was placed under arrest for DUI.  The subject was transported to Kaiser Richmond by ambulance and released on a citation at the hospital.

Petty Theft – 6800 Block of Lincoln Ave.
At 6:18 PM the victim reported their electric bicycle was stolen from their side yard sometime overnight.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Hill St.
At 7:56 PM officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant.  The driver was later transported to county jail on the warrant.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross).
At 8:19 PM officers responded to a shoplifting at the business.  Two suspects stole merchandise and fled the business prior to police arrival.
 
September 7th

Stolen Vehicle – 5600 block of MacDonald Ave.
The victim reported their vehicle was stolen this morning from 8:00 AM to 9:50 AM.

Vandalism – 6600 block of Hill St.
At 3:01 PM the victim reports that an unknown suspect kicked the front door to their residence causing damage.

Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At 3:42 PM an officer arrested the subject for a warrant out of Solano County.  The subject was booked at the police department and released on a citation. 

September 8th

Possess Stolen Property / Forgery – El Dorado Ave / San Pablo Ave:  
At 7:09 AM an officer arrested a woman during a check of a suspicious vehicle with no plates.  The woman had a checkbook in her possession that belonged to someone else.  Contact with the victim revealed several months ago, the woman had tried to cash one of the checks.  The woman was field cited and the vehicle was impounded.

Shoplift- 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 8:35 PM an officer reports store employees contacted a female who was opening packages of unpaid merchandise and asked her to stop. The female exited the store with several of the items.

September 9th

Shoplift – 5805 Cutting Blvd (Skechers):
At 3:11 PM a suspect stole merchandise and fled the store.

At 5:20 PM a suspect stole merchandise and fled the store.

Stolen Vehicle-6500 Block of Blake St:
At 6:18 PM an officer reports the victim heard her vehicle alarm sounding in front of her residence. The victim went outside to her vehicle and saw a male suspect sitting inside the driver’s seat of her vehicle. The victim went inside to call the police to report the incident when the suspect drove away.
 
Stolen Vehicle- 7700 Block of Baron Ct:
At 6:45 PM an officer reports a witness heard a banging noise coming from outside his residence. When he went to check on the noise, he noticed a male suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle. Moments later the suspect drove the victim’s vehicle away. Officers located video of the incident and noticed the previous reported stolen vehicle was at the scene.

Evading the Police- Carlson Blvd./I-80
While circulating for the above suspects an officer located the first stolen vehicle and suspect vehicle. The vehicles entered onto I-80. The officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct an enforcement stop when the vehicles sped away. The suspect vehicle led the officers on a short pursuit and exited the Hilltop offramp and began to drive erratically on city streets. Officers terminated the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

Organized Retail Theft- 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Footlocker):
At 7:53 PM an officer reports three suspects entered the business and randomly selected merchandise and fled the store without paying.

Driving Under the Influence- Willow Ave/Liberty St:
At 11:14 PM officers responded to a possible collision in the area. Officers located a vehicle with  damage in the middle of the roadway. Officers contacted the driver and noticed she had objective signs of intoxication. An officer conducted a DUI investigation and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, she was issued a citation and released to a sober relative.
