Armed Carjacking Suspect Arrested
A suspect, armed with a gun, stole a victim’s van this afternoon. The suspect was arrested in San Francisco after evading police.
San Mateo, CA – On September 15, 2023, at 12:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of a carjacking that occurred near 42nd Avenue and Edison Street. The victim stated he was held at gunpoint while a male suspect stole his van.
Officers arrived on scene and were able to gather the description of the victim’s vehicle, a white Chevrolet van and the license plate number. A countywide “be on the lookout” was broadcast and Brisbane Police Department officers located the stolen van traveling northbound on Highway 101. Brisbane Police officers initiated a pursuit of the carjacking suspect. The pursuit continued into San Francisco and through several city streets. During the vehicle pursuit, officers maintained constant communication between the various affected departments and followed established pursuit protocols to minimize the risk to the public.
Ultimately, the pursuit came to an end near the intersection of Market Street and Octavia Boulevard in San Francisco. The suspect, identified as Jose Ramirez Marquez, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident. A loaded unregistered pistol was found in Marquez’ possession. Marquez was placed under arrest for multiple felony charges and booked into San Mateo County Jail.
