Felony OWI 4th Offense
On September 16, 2023, at 1:10 AM, an officer with the Middleton Police Department observed a vehicle traveling on Century Avenue near the intersection of High Road. While following the vehicle, the officer noticed the vehicle was weaving within its lane, deviating from its lane, and traveling at fluctuating speeds. After following the vehicle for a period of time, a traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle eventually stopped.
The driver was identified as Saul Hernandez Martinez, age 22, of Madison. Officers noted a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Martinez’s breath, he had glassy eyes, and his speech was slurred. The officer also noted that Martinez had open intoxicants inside his vehicle in close proximity to him.
Following field sobriety testing, Martinez was arrested for 4th offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI), a felony. A blood search warrant was required and results are pending. Martinez has a .02 restriction related to his previous OWI offenses.
Martinez was booked into the Dane County Jail for the felony OWI. He was also ticketed for Deviating from the Designated Lane and Possession of Open Intoxicants.
