Full Notification

On September 16, 2023 at approximately 9:00 P.M., Gilroy police officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on First Street, between Wren Avenue and Kern Avenue.  When officers arrived on scene, they found the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.  Emergency life-saving measures were attempted, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The deceased was a 34-year-old male.  His name is being withheld until notification of a next of kin. 
 
The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was on an electrically powered skateboard in the roadway, just prior to the collision.  The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation.  The case is being investigated by the Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.  Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Sergeant Michael McMahon at (408) 846-0350 or [email protected].  For media inquiries, please call (408) 846-0347.  Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling the tip line at (408) 846-0330.
