Green Bay Police Issue Pedestrian Safety Reminder for Drivers; Pedestrian Hit While Crossing Webster Avenue

The Green Bay Police Department is issuing a safety reminder to drivers to be aware of their surroundings following a crash that sent a 59-year-old pedestrian to the hospital.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, just before 10:00 a.m. on the City’s east side at the intersection of Webster Avenue & Porlier Street.

Witnesses reported to police that a limo coach-type van being driven by an 81-year-old Green Bay man was turning left from Porlier Street and onto Webster Avenue when it struck the pedestrian crossing Webster Avenue, causing non-life-threatening injuries to that person.

The driver was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian at a Controlled Intersection.

“This is a high traffic area for not only drivers but also pedestrians. This summer, the Green Bay Police Department has been partnering with Wello on “Frogger”, a crosswalk education and enforcement initiative not far from this crash to collect data on compliance. We ask drivers to please slow down, be mindful of your surroundings, and eliminate distractions, so we can avoid situations like the one today,” said Captain Clint Beguhn, Green Bay Police Department.

The Green Bay Police Department will be participating in the final “Frogger” event for the year on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Webster Avenue and Eliza Street to continue the education initiative.

This investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released on the crash at this time.
