Location: Lakeville Highway east of Pine View Way, Petaluma
Suspects: Ian Streebel (32-year-old, Santa Rosa)
Charges: Driving Under the Influence Causing Injury (23153(f) CVC)
On September 19, 2023, at approximately 11:05 a.m., personnel from the Petaluma Police Department along with the Petaluma Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Lakeville Highway and Pine View Way on report of a vehicle collision with persons trapped inside.
Officers arrived on scene and located a green Kia Soul and blue Chevy truck which collided on Lakeville Highway between Pine View Way and Browns Lane. Both vehicles sustained major damage including airbag deployment. The driver/solo occupant of the Chevy was identified as Ian Streebel, a 32-year-old resident of Santa Rosa. Streebel was evaluated by a paramedic at the scene and ultimately transported to a hospital for treatment and further evaluation. The three occupants of the Kia were transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Streebel appeared to have been traveling eastbound on Lakeville Highway towards Highway 37. Streebel lost control of his vehicle, swerved into oncoming traffic, and broadsided the Kia. Officers on scene located suspected prescription medications in the Chevy driven by Streebel.
During the investigation, Streebel was determined to have been driving the vehicle while under the influence of narcotics. Streebel was placed under arrest for felony DUI with injury. He was medically cleared at the hospital and transported to the Sonoma County Jail for booking. Lakeville Highway was closed in both directions for approximately 1 ½ hours.
