Lieutenant Seth Ferrell to be Promoted to Major (Criminal Investigations Division)

IMPD would like to congratulate Lieutenant Seth Ferrell, who earlier today was appointed the Major of Criminal Investigations Division.

Major Seth Ferrell joined the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in April of 2008 as a patrol officer. After completing his training, Major Ferrell was assigned to East District, where he served on middle shift and the Crime Reduction Team (CRT) for three years. Major Ferrell transferred to IMPD Southeast District in 2012, where he served as a patrol officer and later a field training officer until he was promoted to sergeant in 2017. After working as a field sergeant and the sergeant of Vice/Narcotics, he was promoted to lieutenant in January of 2021 and was assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit. Major Ferrell has also served as the lieutenant of the Special Investigations Unit and most recently as the lieutenant of the Intimate Partner Violence Unit.

Major Ferrell holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Major Ferrell is a graduate of the IMPD Leadership Academy Session 2014-02 and currently serves as a Leadership Academy Mentor.

Major Ferrell is married with two children and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
