IMPD is Proud to Announce that Lieutenant Christopher Lawrence has Graduated from the FBI National Academy
INDIANAPOLIS- Lieutenant Christopher Lawrence of the IMPD Aggravated Assault Unit graduated from the 287th FBI National Academy Session.
“I am proud of the hard work that Lt. Lawrence has put in to complete the FBI National Academy. We look forward to him using his gained knowledge to improve IMPD and for the safety of Indianapolis,” said IMPD Chief Randal Taylor.
The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities. The 10-week program—which provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science—serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide (FBI.gov).
The National Academy was created as the “FBI Police Training School” in 1935 in response to the 1930 Wickersham Commission report recommending standardization and professionalization of law enforcement in the United States through centralized training. At the time, courses included scientific aids in crime detection, preparation of reports, criminal investigation techniques, and administration and organization. Studies pertaining to espionage and sabotage were offered as World War II began.
Lieutenant Lawrence is a 26-year veteran of IMPD. He is currently assigned as the lieutenant of the aggravated assault unit. He began his career as a patrol officer on East District and then became a field training officer. He was later assigned as an instructor at the training academy. Lieutenant Lawrence has served for 19 years in the criminal investigations division as a detective, sergeant, and now a lieutenant.
Lieutenant Lawrence has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and History from Ball State University and a graduate certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. Lieutenant Lawrence is married with three children. He enjoys spending time with my family and friends.
