What is a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)?

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is a means of bringing local solutions to wildfire management. It is a plan created by the community, in collaboration with emergency responders, planners, and land management agencies. A CWPP may address issues such as wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, or structure protection, or all the above. A CWPP:

  • Identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments,
  • Recommends the types and methods of treatments on Federal and non-Federal lands to protect one or more at-risk communities and essential infrastructure,
  • Recommends measures to reduce structural ignitability throughout the at-risk community.

Why are we revising the CWPP?

Teton County’s current CWPP dates back to 2014 and requires updating to incorporate new methodologies and new planning partners. This update will also address the housing stock increase and meet the conditions of the Wyoming State Forest Action Plan and Healthy Forests Restoration Act.

Why should I participate?

Your input will help implement a planning tool that will shape future wildfire mitigation programs. Please consider taking a few important moments to respond to our survey.
