Weather Information Bulletin - September 22, 2023
Fair Lawn Emergency Management is monitoring the coastal system that will likely become Tropical Storm Ophelia as it approaches our area. Saturday will be wet, cool and breezy with 25-35 mph wind gusts. Initial showers will arrive near daybreak on Saturday with light rain continuing to build. Heaviest periods of rain occur midday to late afternoon before becoming lighter and then showery again. The National Weather Service anticipates up to 1” of rain. Intermittent showers will occur through Saturday night with an addition of 0.2” to 0.4” of rain. Winds will continue to gust at 30-35 mph throughout the night. Sunday will bring a few more areas of rain, particularly early on. On and off showers will stick around throughout the day with a potential of an additional 0.25” to 0.5” of rain.
Throughout the weekend the heaviest rain bands can cause flash flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of small creeks, streams and other low lying and flood prone locations. The total rainfall amount is predicted to be 1.5 to 3 inches.
Please monitor local weather conditions, local streams, flood prone areas, and be alert for any forecast changes. Please be sure to take appropriate mitigation actions to protect flood prone properties.
Fair Lawn Emergency Management will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
