Advisory

Monitoring Weekend Stormy Weather and Being Prepared

The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory, predicting that the storm “Ophelia" may greatly impact our area over the weekend, which may include heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges with the potential for flooding.

As of 12:25 PM EST, Tropical Storm warnings stretched from just south of Charleston, South Carolina, to around the Maryland-Delaware state line. In addition, storm surge watches and warnings stretched from Surf City, North Carolina, to the Chesapeake Bay.

With the storm expected to potentially bring significant rain and wind, we wanted to inform residents of the following:
  1. Remove any leaf, brush, or vegetative waste on the streets. The goal is to alleviate our inlets from being blocked by debris and causing flooding.
  2. If there is flooding or inlets appeared to be clogged, please let us know immediately. Fair Haven Police will be patrolling as part of their daily duties, and remain vigilant to this risk.
  3. Please take precautions and secure your outdoor items (furniture, trash cans) to prevent debris from becoming projectiles in strong winds.
  4. Monitor local news and weather updates for the latest information on the storm's progress and any advisories or warnings, throughout the weekend.
  5. Please avoid an unnecessary travel during the storm to reduce the risk of possible accidents.  Fair Haven is expected to have high tide at 2:32PM on Saturday and 3:11AM on Sunday. This paired with the timing of the rainfall could cause flooding issues. As such, please be vigilant and safe in our neighborhoods by slowing down as well as staying indoors.
  6. If you are aware of any downed wires, please do not hesitate to inform JCP&L and the Fair Haven Police Department. In the event outages occur due to severe weather, customers without power are encouraged to report their outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.

Thank you for your diligence and support to keep Fair Haven safe. Your cooperation and preparedness are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community during this upcoming storm

If necessary, additional notifications will be sent to keep residents advised. Thank you again for your cooperation and please stay safe.
