Two Vehicle Injury Crash
Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 9/22/2023 at approximately 3:07 P.M. his deputies responded to a personal injury accident involving two vehicles near the intersection of M 62 Hwy and Pokagon Street in Silver Creek Township.
Initial investigation showed, 81-year-old Lyle Nichols Jr of Dowagiac Mi. was westbound on M-62 attempting to turn into a driveway. Zachary Weicht 32-year-old from Granger, In., was also traveling westbound and rear-ended Nichols’s vehicle. Weicht was taken to Lakeland Hospital St. Joseph Mi. for his injuries. Lyle Nichols was taken to Dowagiac Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital for his injuries sustained in the traffic crash.
Cass County Sheriffs Office was assisted by VBEMS EMS, Newberg EMS and Dowagiac Fire Department. Both subjects were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
