Tropical Storm Ophelia Weather Warning

Earlier this afternoon Tropical Storm Ophelia formed off of the Southeast coast near North Carolina. The current track for this storm will bring it north towards New Jersey before turning east in the southern part of New Jersey. The Denville Office of Emergency Management, along with the Denville Police Department, continues to monitor the track of Tropical Storm Ophelia, as well as the potential effects that will be brought to our area. The forecasted effects from this storm includes the possibility of 2-4 inches of rain and a chance for flash flooding. Sustained winds are expected to be between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

We ask that everyone remember the following: • Never drive through flooded roadways. • Do not approach any downed power lines. If you locate a downed power line, immediately report it to JCP&L and/or the Police Department (973-627-4900 x 9). • Decrease vehicle speeds during rainfall and allow extra travel time. While widespread power outages and flooding are not forecasted, any change to the storm’s path may change the possible effects.  Additional updates on the storm will be provided via Denville OEM's Facebook page (Denville Township Office of Emergency Management) and any emergency updates will be provided via Nixle and the Denville Police Department's social media pages.
