Advisory

Tropical Storm Ophelia updates; First Street Sundays cancelled; Discounted garage space available

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hudson County, including Hoboken. Tropical Storm Ophelia is predicted to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and high wind gusts into early Monday. The NWS expects a rainfall total of approximately 2 to 3 inches and flooding is possible in low-lying areas. The next high tide for the area is at approximately 3:12 p.m. Residents are encouraged to avoid driving during periods of the heaviest rainfall, if possible.

Discounted parking available

Due to the potential for flooding, the City is offering a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period in Garages B (28 Second St.) and D (215 Hudson St.) to residents with a valid Resident On-Street Parking Permit or Temporary Parking Permit. This rate will be offered through 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, while space is available. Regular rates apply at other times. Discounted garage space is available on a first-come, first-served basis and garages often reach full capacity during significant weather events. Residents can call 201-653-7333 to check on current availability.

Hoboken residents with disabilities who possess either a handicapped license plate or hang tag for their permitted vehicle may also park in the Midtown Garage (371 Fourth St.) for the same reduced rate.

City Events Cancelled

The City's recreation programs have been cancelled for today and tomorrow. The Hoboken Business Association has cancelled First Street Sundays tomorrow.

Avoid flood-prone areas

The Office of Emergency Management reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas. Barricades have been deployed near flood-prone intersections. Do not walk or drive through barricades or flooded areas.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Secure loose objects

Hoboken could experience wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially from balconies. Outdoor tents should be taken down depending on the wind load.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepubli
