Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Jewelry Theft Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the suspect pictured below, who stole $11,050 worth of jewelry from a merchant in the Ironbound on September 18, 2023.
Police responded to the theft, which occurred at approximately 1:12p.m. at Coimbra Jewelers, located in the 50 block of Ferry Street. The suspect, a Black male, was captured on surveillance video smashing the display case with a hammer and taking several pieces of jewelry. Items taken during the theft included a pair of 18kt earrings with diamonds, a 14kt white gold chain, two silver chains, two watches, a 14kt yellow gold bracelet and a 14kt gold ring with diamonds.
After the incident, the suspect, who was wearing a black hoodie and green-colored vest, was captured on surveillance video changing clothes numerous times before he fled the area on the Newark Penn Station Light Rail.
