SUMMARY: On Sunday, September 24, 2023, at approximately 1:02 a.m., deputies with the Victor Valley/Adelanto Station attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving without it’s lights on. The driver fled and shortly thereafter lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Cruz, was found to have been reported stolen the prior day.
There were five occupants in the vehicle. One occupant, 13-year-old Ronell Thomas of Adelanto, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two juveniles, both 15-years-old, were transported to hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash. The remaining two occupants fled on foot. One occupant, a 14-year-old male, was located and the other remains outstanding and unidentified.
The Sheriff's Regional Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation.
