Anonymous Tips Lead to School Threat Investigation at Middle School and Found to be Noncredible
DATE: September 26, 2023
INCIDENT: Anonymous School Threat
LOCATION: Park View Middle School, Yucaipa
SUMMARY: The Yucaipa-Calimesa School District utilizes "STOPit – Anonymous Reporting” for each of its school campuses. STOPit is available through a website, iOS application, Google Play App, and by telephone. STOPit can be used to report bullying, discrimination, harassment, violence or threats, weapons, drugs/alcohol, and mental health struggles. The tips are completely anonymous and submitted through a third party.
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, STOPit received tips through the mobile application indicating a possible school shooting would occur Wednesday morning at the Parkview Middle School and named specific students as involved. The threats all originated from an off-campus fight in the early evening on Monday.
School officials and the Sheriff's Department take all threats seriously and immediately investigated the allegations. The juveniles were interviewed at length, and their parents were contacted. Neither of the juveniles had access to firearms.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Department does not believe there is a credible threat against the school or its students. Out of an abundance of caution, additional deputies and school staff will be present on campuses to ensure student safety.
