TOWN OF SHERMAN

WARNING OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 AND REFERENDUM VOTE, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2023

The voters of the Town of Sherman, Connecticut, are hereby warned and notified that a Special Town Meeting will be held in Charter Hall in the Emergency Services Building, 1 Route 39 North, Sherman, Connecticut, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.

ITEM 1. - As recommended by the Board of Selectmen, to discuss a Resolution:

(a) To appropriate $47,205,000 to renovate as new the Sherman School;
(b) To finance said appropriation by issuing its bonds, notes or temporary notes in an amount not to exceed $36,000,000, or so much as may be necessary after deducting grants to be received for the Project;
(c) To authorize the Board of Selectmen, First Selectman and Treasurer to issue the bonds, notes or temporary notes;
(d) To take actions under applicable Internal Revenue Service regulations to allow the Town to issue the bonds, notes or temporary notes on a tax-exempt basis;
(e) To authorize the Board of Selectmen, First Selectman and other Town officials to apply for grants for the Project and to take all other actions necessary to complete the Project and issue the bonds, notes or temporary notes to finance the appropriation. A copy of the full text of the Resolution is on file and available for inspection at the Office of the Town Clerk

The Moderator shall adjourn the Special Town Meeting at its conclusion and the above Resolution shall be submitted to a referendum vote on the voting tabulators or paper ballots by Town electors and qualified voters for approval or disapproval on Saturday, October 7, 2023 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. The Resolution shall be placed upon the voting tabulators or paper ballots under the following heading: 

QUESTION 1. "SHALL THE TOWN OF SHERMAN APPROPRIATE $47,205,000 TO RENOVATE AS NEW THE SHERMAN SCHOOL AND AUTHORIZE THE ISSUANCE OF BONDS, NOTES OR TEMPORARY NOTES IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $36,000,000 TO FINANCE THE APPROPRIATION, OR SO MUCH AS MAY BE NECESSARY AFTER DEDUCTING GRANTS TO BE RECEIVED FOR THE PROJECT?”

YES                                                 NO

Voters approving the Resolution will vote “Yes” and those opposing the Resolution will vote “No”.

Town electors will vote at Charter Hall in the Emergency Services Building, 1 Route 39 North, Sherman, Connecticut. Persons qualified to vote in town meetings who are not electors shall also vote at Charter Hall in the Emergency Services Building, 1 Route 39 North, Sherman, Connecticut. Absentee ballots will be available from the Town Clerk's Office.
