On September 27, 2023, at approximately 15:13 PM, Arroyo Grande Police Department officers were dispatched to the Mobile Gas Station on the 500 block of Traffic Way for a report of a male suspect shoplifting. Officers were provided suspect and vehicle descriptions prior to their arrival.
Officers responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle near the 400 block of South Elm Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle which initially stopped, however it fled from officers, and they initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Shortly after, a citizen called the dispatch center and advised officers that a black Chevy Camaro had parked on a driveway of the 600 block of Verde Place which matched the suspect vehicle description. The citizen reported that a male had exited the Camaro and fled on foot jumping over the neighboring residence fence.
Officers responded to the 600 block of Verde Place to contact the male suspect. The male suspect continued jumping over neighboring fences, attempting to evade officers. Officers utilized a drone to locate the suspect who was hiding in the backyard of a residence on the 700 block of south Elm Street. With the assistance from CHP, San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, and State Parks, Officers were able to take the male suspect into custody.
A 37-year-old male found to be on parole was arrested on charges of felony evading (California Vehicle Code 2800.2), a parole violation (California Penal Code 3056), resisting arrest by means of threat or violence (California Penal Code 69) and other charges as filed. The male was later booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail without further incident.
