INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On September 25th, 2023 at approximately 6:24 P.M. Amsterdam Police were dispatched to 100 Charles Lane for the report of a male threatening harm with a firearm. Members of the Amsterdam Police Department patrol division responded and determined that the male suspect in question was involved in a domestic incident that had just occurred. The suspect was identified at the scene as 31 year-old Corey J. Sumpter of Amsterdam. During the initial interview and investigation Sumpter was uncooperative with police and made attempts to hinder the investigation. While conducting a lawful search of the residence at which the domestic incident occurred officers located a loaded Cobra 9MM handgun. At that time detectives were requested to process the evidence at the scene. An Amsterdam Police detective responded and processed the scene and located additional ammunition for the suspect’s weapon.
Upon completion of the investigation on scene Sumpter was transported to Amsterdam Police HQ where he was processed and held pending arraignment.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond in this investigation, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
