Follow-Up to Alert Regarding Police Activity on East Tabor

Update, 28 September 2023:

On September 27th, at around 1:15 pm, Fairfield Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a local resident. The resident reported they were walking on a trail in the area of 900 East Tabor Ave, when they saw a man manipulating a handgun.

Officers were dispatched to the walking trail north of East Tabor Avenue and observed the man, who was still holding the firearm. Due to the close proximity of the Grange Middle School campus, the school was put in lockdown status.

Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but in response he pointed it at one of the responding officers. As a result, one Fairfield Police officer discharged their service weapon, striking the man.

The man sustained an injury that was not life threatening and was transported to a local area hospital. He was treated and released from the hospital a few hours later.

The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force was activated and initiated its investigation into the incident. Due to the investigation, East Tabor Avenue, east of Sunset Avenue, was closed for several hours.

Once the scene was determined to be safe, the school was notified the lockdown could be lifted and the school resumed normal activities. At this time, it is believed the location of this incident and its close proximity to the school campus are coincidental.

Over the course of the initial investigation, it was determined the man’s firearm was actually a BB-gun designed to look like a real semi-automatic handgun. The man, identified as 40-year-old Fairfield resident Osiris Santos, was arrested for felony assault on a peace officer and booked into Solano County Jail.

The involved officer was placed on administrative leave, in accordance with department policy. The officer’s name will be released at a later time, in accordance with California law.

The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force continues to investigate this incident. To preserve the integrity of that investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
