Advisory

Flood advisory for Hoboken; avoid flood-prone areas; discounted parking to be available

The National Weather Service has issued coastal flood advisories for Hudson County, including Hoboken, that go into effect tonight from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. The NWS expects periods of heavy rain, with as much as 3 inches forecast through Saturday afternoon, and locally higher amounts of up to 5 inches possible in our area. Upcoming high tides in our area, which could impact local flooding, are tomorrow at 8:51 a.m. and 9:11 p.m. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Avoid flood-prone areas

The Office of Emergency Management reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas. No parking signs will be posted in flood-prone areas. The signs are advisories and cars will not be towed. Barricades have been deployed near flood-prone intersections. Do not walk or drive around barricades or through flooded areas.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Discounted parking available

Due to the potential for flooding, the City is offering a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period in Garages B (28 Second St.) and D (215 Hudson St.) to residents with a valid Resident On-Street Parking Permit or Temporary Parking Permit. This rate will be offered from 8 p.m. tonight through 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30., while space is available.

Hoboken residents with disabilities who possess either a handicapped license plate or hang tag for their permitted vehicle may also park in the Midtown Garage (371 Fourth St.) for the same reduced rate.

Discounted garage space is available on a first-come, first-served basis and garages often reach full capacity during significant weather events. Residents are encouraged to follow City social media accounts for updates on availability, including the Hoboken OEM Twitter page at @HobokenOEM and the City’s Twitter page at @CityofHoboken.

Recreation Programs Cancelled

Due to the heavy rains expected, all outdoor City recreation programs have been cancelled for tomorrow, Sept. 29. At this time, indoor and weekend recreation programs will continue as scheduled.

Remain alert, stay informed, and exercise caution
