The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Bronx County in southeastern New York... New York (Manhattan) County in southeastern New York... Central Westchester County in southeastern New York...

* Until 400 PM EDT.

* At 1257 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.75 to 1.25 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Mott Haven, East Tremont, Ossining, Tarrytown, Mount Kisco, Dobbs Ferry, Throgs Neck Bridge, Laguardia Airport, RFK Bridge, Harlem, Greenwich, Riverdale, Bayside, Co-op City, Harrison, Scarsdale and Bronxville. Mud landslides have been reported by Emergency Management in the hillier terrain of Lower Westchester, as motorists should remain mindful of the dangerous conditions and avoid traveling, if even the rain has temporarily stopped.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
