**Norton Shores Police Department Announces Arrest in Homicide Investigation**
Norton Shores, MI – The Norton Shores Police Department is making significant strides in the investigation of a tragic shooting incident that occurred on December 29, 2022. Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 2900 block of Getty, where they discovered a vehicle in the middle of the intersection of Continental and Columbia. 24-year-old Jamarr Burse of Muskegon was found with fatal gunshot wounds inside the car. Despite immediate attempts at CPR, Mr. Burse was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 16-year-old Muskegon male, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered two gunshot wounds and fled on foot to a nearby residence. He was promptly treated at an area hospital and released in the following days.
On September 28, 2023, after an exhaustive investigation, the Norton Shores Police Department formally requested charges against 23-year-old Amir Sincere Petty of Muskegon for his involvement in the murder of Jamarr Burse and the non-fatal shooting of the juvenile male. In response to this request, the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized the following charges on Amir Petty:
- HOMICIDE - OPEN MURDER
- WEAPONS - FIREARMS - POSSESSION BY FELON
- WEAPONS - CARRYING CONCEALED
