El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from September 17th to September 23rd.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from September 17th to September 23rd.

September 17th


Possession of a Controlled Substance/ Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Ave at Blake St: 
At 8:42 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver of the vehicle for an outstanding warrant out of Orange County. During a search incident to arrest, the driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a glass pipe. The driver was issued a citation on the new charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for the warrant.
 
September 18th

Grand Theft- 410 El Cerrito Plaza (Verizon): 
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole several items from a display and fled the store. The theft occurred between 4:00-4:10 PM.

September 19th

Sexual Battery – 1200 block of Elm St.
At 10:29 AM the victim reported that during a party on Saturday 9/16 an acquaintance inappropriately touched them. 

Sexual Battery – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 2:19 PM the victim was shopping when the suspect touched them inappropriately.  Officers detained the suspect, but the victim refused to place them under citizen’s arrest.  The suspect was released. 

Auto Burglary – 500 Block of Elm St:
At 3:15 AM the victim noticed a suspect inside of their vehicle.  Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Auto Burglary – 600 Block of Elm St:
After investigating the auto burglary on the 500 block of Elm St., Officers noticed another auto burglary.  The suspect broke the window of the vehicle and rummaged through the vehicle.
 
September 20th

Auto Burglary/Residential Burglary – 1100 block of Liberty St.
At 7:18 PM the victim reports that their vehicle was burglarized. The suspect used the garage door opener in the victim’s car to enter the garage and stole additional items. 
 
Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 10636 San Pablo Ave.
 At 9:08 AM an officer located an unoccupied reported stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was impounded  and the victim was notified.    

Theft by False Pretenses – 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At 10:29 AM the suspect contacted the victim via their cellphone.  The suspect gained remote access of the victim’s cellphone and wired money from the victim’s bank account to theirs.

Grand Theft – 6900 block of Stockton Ave.
At 4:46 PM the victim reports that an unknown suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and stole items.   

Vehicle Tampering – Hill St at Liberty St:
At 6:26 PM the victim reports a suspect broke the window to their vehicle and damaged the ignition in an attempt to steal. 

Vandalism – 10070 San Pablo Ave (Cerrito Theater):
At 7:03 PM A witness reported a suspect sprayed graffiti on the back wall of the theater.
 
September 21st
 
Auto Burglary – 5300 Cypress Ave.
At 7:54 AM the victim reports that someone entered their vehicle and stole miscellaneous items. 

September 22nd

Vehicle Theft – 700 block of Elm St:
An officer reports the theft of a 2003 Chevy Astro van between midnight and 11 AM on 9/21.

Battery – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 2:42 PM a suspect threw items at a Ross employee because she was upset over the process to complete a return.

September 23rd

Disregard Peace Officer – San Pablo Ave / Moeser Ln:
At 11:08 AM an officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle but it failed to yield.  Due to public safety concerns the officer did not pursue, and the vehicle was last seen southbound past Columbia Avenue.  At 11:34 AM the female passenger of the vehicle called 911 to report the driver had fled the vehicle and left her behind on Huntington Ave just west of San Pablo Ave, after he had circled back to the area.  The driver was not located.

Robbery / Probation Violation – 10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshall’s):
At 1:57 PM an officer reports the arrest of a woman after she stole items, then threatened Loss Prevention with pepper spray when they attempted to stop her.  The woman was placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Vandalism/Warrant Arrest- 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks): 
At 6:00 PM officers were dispatched to Starbucks in regards to a male subject cussing, throwing rocks and spray painting on the order board sign. He was last seen going towards the Home Depot. Officers located the subject and detained him. During an infield show-up the male was positively identified as the suspect and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. During a records check officers discovered the suspect had an outstanding warrant. After booking, the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
