The Second Annual San Mateo Police Department Pink Patch Party Will be Held on October 7, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SMPD and the San Mateo Police Officers’ Association (SMPOA) present the Second Annual Pink Patch Party. The event is to raise breast cancer awareness and will offer mammograms at no cost to the patients.
San Mateo, CA – The San Mateo Police Department supports breast cancer awareness and during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, our department, along with our Police Officers’ Association will host the 2nd Annual “Pink Patch Party.” The free family event, sponsored by Verkada, will be held at 100 South B Street in downtown San Mateo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We have partnered with Sutter Health Alta Bates Summit Medical Center to provide mammograms at no cost to the patient during the event via a 40-foot mobile mammography van. The van is equipped with the latest mammography technology and will be staffed by a dedicated breast health team. 1 in 8 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis over the course of her lifetime. While breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, the overall death rate from breast cancer has decreased by 1% each year. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances and early detection through screening. Women whose breast cancer is detected at an early stage have a 99% survival rate in the first five years, states the American Cancer Society website. To pre-register for a mammogram, review eligibility, and review preparation instructions visit https://feedback.sutterhealth.org/f/155358/30bd/
Other events at the Pink Patch Party will include a variety of health partner booths with information and resources, local vendor booths, live music, food and drinks, raffles and prizes, pumpkin painting, a bounce house, animals to meet and adopt, a donut eating competition. There will also be the ability to interact with police patrol vehicles and motorcycles, drones, police dogs, and a chance to “Dunk a Cop” in a dunk tank.
During the month of October, you will see several of our officers wearing pink patches on their uniforms. Also, most of our patrol vehicles will have pink patch emblems to show support for breast cancer survivors and to raise awareness.
