City and Hudson Regional Health Commission to offer new COVID-19 vaccine

The City of Hoboken and Hudson Regional Health Commission will host a new COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Tuesday, Oct. 10, to provide residents with the newly approved updated Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines that target newer variants ahead of the winter season. The clinic will also offer residents 65 years or older the flu vaccine.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized new updated Moderna and Pfizer vaccines last month.

The clinic will offer those 6 months old or older the updated Pfizer vaccine and those 1-year-old or older the updated Moderna vaccine. Please note those aged 6 months to 4 years old cannot receive the Pfizer vaccine if they were previously vaccinated with Moderna.

"I encourage all eligible residents to get the new FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine, which targets recent variants and offers greater protection as e head into the fall,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “Thank you to the Hudson Regional Health Commission for working with us as we continue to make sure our community has access to the new vaccine."

The City's clinic will be held at 605 Jackson Street between 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Appointments are strongly encouraged due to limited vaccine availability. Make an appointment online at https://www.hudsoncovidvax.org/. Call (201) 223-1133 or email [email protected] with any questions.

Waste container distribution rescheduled

The City will continue container distribution next week to help residents in need of a garbage container with a tight-fitting lid.

Distribution will be first-come, first-served on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 10. – 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. – former Union Dry Dock, 901 Sinatra Dr.
  • Thursday, Oct. 12 – 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. – former Union Dry Dock, 901 Sinatra Dr.

Registered agents must bring a copy of their management contract agreement.

Each property can take up to three containers per address.

Residents must bring proof of residency, which may include a utility bill, signed lease, or license.

As a reminder, residents who already have a container with a tight-fitting lid do not need to acquire a new container. The new regulation also has no effect on recycling or bulk/ furniture pick-up.

Property owners or the responsible agent of a property that has 10 or fewer units with space constraints can apply for a 1-year exemption to containerize garbage online at https://hoboken.seamlessdocs.com/f/containerization_exemption.

City & Hoboken Business Alliance launch Water Main Break Recovery Grants Program for local business community

The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Business Alliance today launched online applications for the Water Main Break Recovery Grant Program, which will provide local businesses and certain property owners with financial relief following losses and damages incurred during the Feb. 27, 2023, water main break and boil water advisory.

Eligible businesses and/ or property owners in Hoboken who sustained physical property damage caused by the water main break repair can apply for up to $5,000 in funding at https://hoboken.seamlessdocs.com/f/WaterMainRecoveryGrantApplication. The deadline to apply is Nov. 22.

“I’m very pleased to share that we are now offering grants to affected business and property owners who suffered financial losses earlier this year,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “I thank the HBA for their assistance in processing these applications, and encourage anyone who meets the criteria to apply.”

“This grant program is designed to be easy and efficient, ensuring we can provide relief funds to as many businesses as possible before the end of the year,” said Roxanne Earley, Executive Director of the Hoboken Business Alliance. “We look forward to getting funds out of the door quickly in our continued partnership with the City to help bring financial relief to the businesses impacted by the water main break.”
The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • The business must be located in Hoboken, operating during the time of the water main break, and currently operating. Please note, businesses that were not yet operational at the time of the water main break but were preparing to open and experienced losses and or delays due to the water main break are also eligible to apply.
  • The business must be able to demonstrate financial losses and or physical damages incurred between Feb. 27, 2023, and March 2, 2023, that the business suffered as a direct result of the water main break. *Losses and damages covered by insurance may not be claimed.*
  • Property owners must be located within Hoboken and have sustained physical property damage due to the water main repairs between Feb. 27, 2023, and March 2, 2023.
  • Property owners and business owners are eligible to apply for assistance; however, funding requests may not be duplicated. For example, if a property owner repaired building damages due to the water main break, the property owner may request assistance for those costs. The business owner leasing this building may not request assistance for the same building repairs; however, the business owner may request assistance with other eligible expenses, such as product loss, revenue loss, etc., due to the water main break.

Business and property owners must demonstrate direct financial losses, physical damage to the property, equipment, or merchandise, and/ or lost wages to receive application approval.
