Earlier today at approximately 11:30 AM an off-duty officer observed Tyrone Gibson, who had a temporary warrant for Attempted First Degree Homicide from a shooting last week.  Officers responded to the area of Oakhill and Barham and saw Tyrone Gibson on foot.  A uniformed officer confronted Gibson and the officer told Tyrone to show his hands.  Tyrone Gibson drew a firearm from his waistband and pointed it at a detective who had just arrived.

Gibson fired one shot at the detective and missing.  Gibson then fled through the residential area.  The officer and detective demonstrated great discipline by not returning fire, knowing their background included occupied homes.

Additional officers arrived in the area and set up a perimeter, while other officers pursued Gibson, who was still armed, and on foot.  Gibson was running through yards trying to avoid capture.  Gibson allegedly made threats to a citizen, who was outside, while Gibson was still armed and fleeing. 

Gibson was surrounded in the 1700 block of Peterson Ave and was taken into custody without injury to citizens, officers, or Gibson.

The Janesville Police Department would like to thank the citizens in the area who assisted officers during this situation and the investigation that followed. 

Tyrone Gibson is currently being held at the Rock County Jail.
