Fireworks reminder; Holiday schedule announced; Theatre & recreation programs announced.

Fireworks begin tonight at 7 p.m.  As a reminder, the Propelify Innovation Festival will host a fireworks display tonight near Maxwell Place Park. Fireworks are scheduled to occur between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Holiday schedule announced

Municipal offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9, for Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. They will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Street cleaning will be suspended on Monday. Waste collection will occur as scheduled. 

The Hop shuttle service is suspended on Monday. It will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 10. 

All parking regulations will remain in effect. 

City to offer fall theatre classes for youth 

The City of Hoboken's Cultural Affairs Division and Mile Square Theatre will offer theatre classes to residents between 6 and 13 years old this fall.  

Mile Square Theatre Teaching Artists will teach children the basics of acting through energetic theater games and character work as well as creative improvisation and more.   

The course is $90 per student for 7 classes. Space is limited.

Class details are as follows:    Theatre Games 101   Ages: 6 – 9 years old    
Dates: Fridays from Oct. 27 – Dec. 15   
Time: 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  Where: Mile Square Theatre, Studio B, 1400 Clinton St. In this fast-paced introduction to theater games, we will learn the fundamentals of creative improvisation, beginning with the all-important “yes, and…” From there, we’ll learn how to create scenes using a wide variety of techniques, formats, and games. Class will culminate in a presentation for family and friends.  Theatre Games 101    Ages: 10 – 13 years old    
Dates: Fridays from Oct. 27 – Dec. 15

Cheerleading fundraiser announced

Cheer Dynamics All Stars is offering babysitting on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Multi-Service Center Gym, 124 Grand St. The cost is $50 per child and includes tumbling and pizza. There is a $25 discount for additional siblings.

City offers adult ultimate frisbee

The Hoboken Recreation Division will offer adult ultimate frisbee on Friday nights at 1600 Park Ave from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.. The program, designed for all skill levels,  will run from Oct. 20 to Nov. 24 and it costs $35 per participant.

Pick-up basketball registration opens Tuesday 

Starting on Oct. 20, the City will offer pick-up basketball at 605 Jackson St. from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday mornings through Nov. 24.  This is an informal “pick up” basketball program for those 18 years old or older. There will be no referees or officials and fans or spectators will not be permitted, only registered players are allowed in the gym. All registered players must sign in before participation.

Youth basketball open gym announced 

The City will offer free, open gym for Hoboken youth on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St. This is an informal “pick up” basketball program. There will be no referees or officials and fans or spectators will not be permitted, only registered players are allowed in the gym. All registered players must sign in before participation.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - 7th & 8th graders
  • 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. - 3rd & 4th graders
  • 6 - 7 p.m. -  5th to 6th graders
