INDIANAPOLIS - Today, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) homicide detectives arrested 24-year-old Kara Hinds for her alleged role in a triple homicide that occurred in June.

“I want to acknowledge the senseless tragedy that has fallen upon our community and fallen upon the families who were impacted by this violence. Three lives were lost and one person is still recovering. That’s not lost on any of us who have been working on this case,” said Chief Kendale Adams.

On Sunday, June 25, 2023, after 2:00 am, IMPD North District officers responded to shots being fired in the 800 block of Broad Ripple Avenue. Officers quickly arrived and located four victims with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds(s). Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported a male and a female to area hospitals, both in serious condition. Unfortunately, the other two male and female victims were pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. 

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office assisted and determined the exact manner and cause of death.

Subsequently, the male victim that was transported to an area hospital in critical condition was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

Detectives continued working on this case and established probable cause to arrest 24-year-old Kara Hinds for her alleged role in this incident. On October 5, 2023, detectives working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office were granted through the courts an arrest warrant for Hinds for the charge of murder.

That same day with the assistance of the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) Hinds was taken into custody in the 1700 block of E. 73^rd Street without further incident.
