Advisory

NWS hazardous weather outlook; monitor forecasts; use caution when traveling

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hudson County, including Hoboken. A flood watch will go into effect at 2 a.m. Saturday through Saturday evening. A strong cold front is expected to bring a potential for heavy rain showers and thunderstorms later tonight. Tomorow, there is an 80-percent chance of rain, heavy at times, with widespread rainfall up to 2.5 inches, with locally 3 to 4 inches possible. This could present a threat for isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding.

The Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor forecasts. Residents are reminded to avoid low-lying, flood-prone areas as flooding is possible if rainfall is above 0.8 inches per hour. Please avoid driving during the heaviest rainfall if possible and use caution when traveling.

Barricades have been deployed near flood-prone intersections. Residents are reminded not to drive or walk through flood waters and to not drive around or move barricades.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Residents should monitor local forecasts for additional advisories, watches, and warnings. Updates will be posted on the Hoboken OEM Twitter page at @HobokenOEM. Residents are also encouraged to monitor the City’s Twitter at @CityOfHoboken and Facebook at facebook.com/hoboken, or sign up to receive email or text updates by visiting www.hobokennj.gov/alerts.
