Two Young Children Suffer Burns During Boating Incident at Park Moabi
DATE/TIME: Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 12:24 p.m.
INCIDENT: Minor Injury Boating Accident
LOCATION: Camp site 15, Park Moabi, CA
SUMMARY: On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 12:24 p.m., Marine Enforcement deputies responded to a report of a boat accident near camp site 15 at Park Moabi. The vessel, a blue and white Mastercraft ski boat, left the beach heading south on the Colorado River. Approximately 30 seconds after coming up onto plane, an explosion came from the engine compartment of the vessel. The vessel caught fire and was later extingushed by jet skiers in the area.
A 5-year-old female and 3-year-old male suffered burns to their lower extremities. The 5-year-old female was later air evacuated to Sunrise Medical Center for her injuries. All injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
