Woman Arrested After Burglarizing an Apartment
 
A woman climbed through an open window into an apartment, stole items, and was arrested.    
 
San Mateo, CA – On October 9, 2023, at 11:16 p.m., a woman was arrested for burglary after she climbed through an open window into an apartment located at 4000 South El Camino Real.  The woman, Tammi Smith, entered the victim’s apartment, and stole several items from the apartment.  Smith was found by officers and arrested.   
 
SMPD received a call from a resident in the apartment complex.  The resident witnessed Smith knocking on doors of different apartments within the complex.  Smith then removed a screen and climbed through an open window of one of the apartments.  The resident was able to provide a description of Smith that led to officers locating Smith in a parking lot next to the apartment complex.  Smith had items from the apartment with her when she was stopped.  Smith was arrested for burglary and booked into San Mateo County Jail.     
 
We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness.  If you witness a crime, contact police immediately.  Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone.  Remember details such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once the police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have.  Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.
