Man Arrested After Stabbing Co-Worker

A man stabbed his co-worker after an argument, arrested by police.

San Mateo, CA – On October 10, 2023, at 3:15 p.m., Robert Ridenour was arrested for stabbing his co-worker multiple times.  San Mateo Police Department received a report of a stabbing near the intersection of 36th Avenue and Hacienda Street.  Officers arrived within minutes of the 911 call and found the victim bleeding from stab wounds on his leg and arm.  Officers applied tourniquets to the victim and provided medical aid before he was eventually taken to a local hospital for medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, Robert Ridenour, a co-worker of the victim, was still at the crime scene.  Ridenour was detained by police without incident.  During the investigation, officers were told Ridenour and the victim got into a verbal argument.  While the two were arguing, Ridenour grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim.  Many other co-workers witnessed the incident and were able to separate Ridenour and the victim and call the police.

This was an isolated incident that escalated from a verbal argument.  The swift actions by our officers responding to the scene were able to provide medical care to the victim and apprehend the person responsible for this crime.  Remember, “if you see something, say something.”  Call police immediately to defuse a situation before it escalates.

While this is an extreme case of workplace violence, many workers are victims of workplace violence each year.  Workplace violence is any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behaviors that occurs in the workplace.  For more information on workplace violence and developing workplace violence prevention plans, visit Workplace Violence - Overview | Occupational Safety and Health Administration (osha.gov).
