Several Suffer Minor Injuries as a Result of Three-Vehicle Collision in Twentynine Palms

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, October 11, 2023, 2:21 p.m. 

INCIDENT: Minor Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Lear Avenue and Twentynine Palms Highway, Twentynine Palms

INVOLVED PARTY(S): Driver 1, John Peters, a 63 year-old male resident of Bermuda Dunes 
Passenger of Vehicle 1, 18 year-old female, Vanessa Peters resident of Bermuda Dunes
Driver 2, William Hawkins, a 30 year-old male resident of Twentynine Palms, 
Passengers of Vehicle 2, 28 year-old female, Kalani Fetrow and a 3 year-old male, resident of Twentynine  Palms
Driver 3, Cesar Salazar, a 51 year-old male resident of Hesperia


SUMMARY: On October 11, 2023, at approximately 2:21 p.m., Twentynine Palms deputies responded to a traffic collision at Lear Avenue and Twentynine Palms Highway. Deputies learned vehicle 3, a red dump truck, and vehicle 2, a grey volkswagen, were stopped in the left hand turn lane at the redlight near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Lear Avenue. Vehicle 1, a silver Saturn, drove eastbound on Twentynine Palms Highway and collided into the rear of vehicle 2, causing it to collide into vehicle 3. 

The driver and passenger of vehicle 1 sustained minor injuries and were transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. The driver and passengers of vehicle 2 were transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. 

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Twentynine Palms Highway were closed, with the assistance of the San Bernardino County Fire Department, for approximately 20 minutes at the intersection of Lear Avenue, while deputies conducted the investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time.
