On Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at approximately 0128 hours, the Readington Township Police observed a vehicle on River Rd. near County Route 523 driving with its lights on and off and failing to maintain its lane. The driver later identified as Brian Bancroft out of Flemington, NJ refused to stop for the officer. Bancroft crashed his vehicle and fled on foot before being taken into custody on Route 31 in Raritan Township. Bancroft was placed under arrest and charged with Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Justice and issued the following motor vehicle summons; Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Obey Signs, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Maintain Lane, Maintenance of Lamps, Abandoning Vehicle on Private Property and Improper Turn. Bancroft was processed and lodged at the County Jail.
