On Wednesday October 11, 2023 at approxmately 3:27 p.m. Harper Woods Police Officers responded to the area of Kelly Road and Huntington on the report of shots fired. The armed suspects were reported to have ran east down Huntington Street from Kelly Road. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and located the suspects running between houses. After a foot pursuit by officers, both juvenile suspects were apprehended and the loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
Two victims were identified who reported the known suspect shot at them 3-4 times at close range. The victims were not injured and there was no reported property damage. The juvenile shooter was placed in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility the same day.
On Thursday October 12, 2023 the shooter, a 16 year old Detroit resident, was charged through the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office Juvenile Division with:
Two counts of Assault With Intent To Commit Murder
Two Counts of Felony Firearm
One count of Carrying Concealed Weapon-Firearm
Police confirmed the second arrested juvenile suspect, though present, was not involved in the shooting and was released to his legal guardian. Due to the juvenile status, the suspects involved will not be identified.
