Suspect Arrested for Assault with a Baseball Bat

A man used a baseball bat during an assault and fled from the scene, police later located and arrested the suspect.

San Mateo, CA – On October 12, 2023, at 5:24 p.m., a man was walking on North Railroad Avenue near Tilton Avenue when he was suddenly attacked by a male suspect.  The suspect punched the victim and struck him on the head with a baseball bat.  The suspect, later identified as Alfredo PrietoMartinez, fled the area in a red Jeep.  The victim was able to contact the police.  Officers immediately responded and found the injured victim.  The victim had a laceration on his head and was bleeding from his mouth.  Officers provided medical attention to the victim, and he was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

During the initial investigation, officers were able to get a description of PrietoMartinez, the car he left in and the direction the car drove off.  Officers located surveillance cameras in the area that assisted in the investigation.  With assistance from the San Mateo Police Department Crime Reduction Unit, and San Mateo County Task Force officers, the red Jeep was found in Redwood City.  Officers located PrietoMartinez near the Jeep and detained him without incident.  As the investigation continued, PrietoMartinez was identified as the suspect and placed under arrest.  PrietoMartinez was booked into San Mateo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and assault with serious bodily injury.
