INVOLVED PARTY # 1: Bernardino Gutierrez Jr., 54-year-old male from Rancho Cucamonga (deceased)
INVOLVED PARTY # 2: Joel Corona, 25-year-old male from Upland
SUMMARY: On October 13, 2023, at 11:02 pm, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department were flagged down by a driver at the intersection of Grove Avenue and 9th Street in Rancho Cucamonga. The driver, Joel Corona, reported he was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, later identified as Bernardino Gutierrez Jr.
Based on the investigation, it appears Gutierrez Jr. walked east at the intersection of Grove Avenue and 9th Street when he was struck by Corona's vehicle, which was traveling north in the # 1 lane of Grove Avenue through a circular green traffic light. Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department pronounced Gutierrez Jr. deceased at the scene.
Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Major Accident Investigation Team responded and assumed the investigation.
