Bicyclist Arrested for Brandishing a Weapon and Resisting Arrest
A member of a bicycle group brandished a weapon while yelling at a motorist. The suspect tried to flee from police and resisted arrest.
San Mateo, CA – On October 13, 2023, at 9:53 p.m., a member of a large bicycle group approached a car trying to drive past the group and brandished a weapon in a threatening manner. The suspect was later found and tried to flee from police. The suspect was ultimately apprehended and arrested.
San Mateo Police Department received a 911 call from about a group of bicycle riders in downtown San Mateo. The victim stated a large group of bicyclists had surrounded her car and was hitting the vehicle. As the group was hitting her car a member of the group approached her car yelling. The victim said the suspect, later identified as Jeffery Seiler, lifted his shirt showing a weapon in his waistband. The victim called the police and several officers responded to the scene.
The group of bicyclists continued to ride through San Mateo as officers were arriving on scene. The victim was able to give a detailed description of Seiler and his clothing. Officers located Seiler riding in the group and attempted to stop him. Seiler rode away from officers. Officers chased him for multiple city blocks before being able to stop and detain him without further incident. Seiler was arrested for brandishing a weapon and resisting arrest.
