INCIDENT TYPE: Aggravated Assault causing Serious Bodily Injury

DETAILS: On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 12:17 am, officers were sent to the area of 700 N. Mirror on a shots fired call and 911 hangup. As officers arrived, they located the victim in the driver seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the lower body. Through investigations, it was found that a juvenile male in the backseat behind the driver discharged a firearm causing injury to the driver. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile male originally fled the scene; however, returned and was arrested. He was ultimately booked into the YCHP on the Aggravated Assault charge. The Amarillo Police Department Juvenile Investigation Unit is investigating this incident.
