A prescribed fire is underway near Rock Spring in the Mount Tamalpais Watershed, which sits between Stinson Beach and Mill Valley.
Community members up to several miles away may see or smell smoke from the planned burn throughout the day but are encouraged to refrain from calling 911 to report smoke emanating from the up to 11-acre burn zone. The planned operation is being conducted by Marin County Fire Department, in coordination with Marin Water, which manages the Mt. Tam Watershed.
Trails in the immediate vicinity of the planned burn area will remain closed throughout the operation. Prescribed fires are designed to reduce overgrown vegetation and lessen the risk of catastrophic wildfire on the watershed.
