Date & Time: Monday, October 30, 2023, from 8:00 am-10:00 am
Unit(s) Responsible: Moorpark Police Department

Narrative:

The Moorpark Police Department is proud to announce another “Coffee with a Cop” event.  Coffee with the Moorpark Police Chief and members of the Moorpark Police Station brings the police department and community members together, over coffee, to discuss issues and learn more about resources, services, and needs of the community.

On Monday, October 30th from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, Moorpark Chief of Police Darin Hendren, along with deputies from the Moorpark Police Station, will be at McDonald’s located at 501 New Los Angeles Ave, in the city of Moorpark, sharing a cup of coffee with neighbors. As an added bonus for this event, the Moorpark Police Department is partnering with Interface Children and Family Services.

Interface is a non-profit agency with 50 years of experience providing a wide variety of programs to Ventura County residents.  There are over 29 programs available, including: mental health services; parenting education; child abuse treatment; programs to evaluate and treat sexual abuse, domestic violence, and human trafficking; family violence intervention services; re-entry services; and youth services.  Most programs are free of charge. The Interface representative attending Coffee with a Cop is bilingual and will provide coordination of services.

Community trust is one of the key elements to the success of the Moorpark Police Department. By sitting down and having a simple conversation, deputies, and the community members they serve, can continue building and growing together.

The Moorpark Police Department invites members of the community to come out and ask questions, voice concerns, get crime prevention advice, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood, as well as meet representatives from Interface. This is a relaxed, informal event and is not about speeches or agendas but simply about casual conversation. Moorpark Police Department staff will also have handouts explaining our Volunteer in Policing program and our Explorer program, as well as scam and fraud prevention.  For our Spanish-speaking residents, we will have Spanish-speaking deputies as well as Interface staff at the event.

The goal of Coffee with the Chief is to get to know the community better and hear about issues the residents feel are important.  This community-building event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie that make our neighborhoods safer all year round by continued police-community partnerships.

Building relationships – one cup at a time.
