On the evening of October 24, 2023, shortly before 7 PM, the Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) received a 911 call reporting an incident involving two adult females leaving the Vons store located at 1855 Cochran Street with a shopping cart full of unpaid groceries. SVPD officers swiftly located the vehicle suspected to be involved as it was departing the vicinity. They performed a felony stop and engaged with the two female occupants.

The individuals were identified as Laura Maldonado, 37 years of age, and Kellie Williams, 48 years of age, both residing in Bakersfield. Subsequently, they were apprehended for their involvement in a substantial theft amounting to $3,800 worth of merchandise taken from both the Simi Valley Vons and the nearby Target store on Cochran Street.

Maldonado and Williams were taken into custody and subsequently booked at the Ventura County Jail on charges including PC 487(a) for Grand Theft, 490.4(a)(1) for Organized Retail Theft, and 182(a)(1) for Conspiracy. All of the stolen merchandise was successfully returned to the respective stores.
