Police Seek Help Identifying Package Theft Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with a package theft that occurred on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
A victim reported that a package delivered to a residence in the 600 block of South 19th Street was stolen at approximately 11:38 a.m. Police observed the victim’s surveillance camera footage, which shows the suspect removing the package and placing it into a bookbag before fleeing. The stolen package contained clothing items purchased from JCPenney.
Detectives investigating this incident describe the male suspect as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt under a light-colored denim jacket. He was also wearing dark sunglasses, a black cap with a logo, light-colored jeans, Timberland construction boots, and carrying a red backpack.
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
